Our yoga and meditation cushions are filled with buckwheat hulls from Quebec. As part of a sustainable approach, this filling is recycled, renewable, durable, and compostable. In addition, buckwheat hulls are hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, and antibacterial.
After a few months of use, the volume of a new cushion may decrease by 5 to 10%. At that point, additional hulls can be added to restore its original volume. After several years, it is recommended to replace the hulls with new ones.
To refill a meditation cushion that has lost some volume, 1 pound is generally sufficient.
If you would like to make your own buckwheat pillow, here are the approximate quantities needed*:
- Baby pillow: 3 to 4 pounds
- Adult pillow: 6 to 8 pounds
- Nursing pillow: 6 to 8 pounds
- Body pillow: 9 to 12 pounds

To clean your cushion, wash the cover only. If necessary, you can air the hulls in the sun on a large sheet, but never put the hulls in water.
