Fall invites us to slow down.
After several weeks of long, warm and sunny days filled with summer outings and activities, school starts again and our daily routines begin to shift. The days get shorter and the nights become cooler. This decrease in daylight is part of a natural cycle that we shouldn’t ignore. Instead, we can adapt our lifestyle habits to help prepare our bodies for the colder season ahead.
Rather than seeing this transition negatively or simply going along with it, why not welcome fall with a sense of calm and use it as an opportunity to take better care of yourself?
Here are 8 simple habits to adopt this fall to support your body, your sleep and your inner balance.
1. Give yourself permission to slow down
As daylight decreases, it’s normal to feel a drop in energy. It’s important to slow down the pace of our activities and learn to listen more closely to the signals our bodies are sending us.
Before starting your day or tackling your to-do list, ask yourself: Do I really need to do this? What do I truly need today? It’s better to prioritize what really matters.
When we reduce our to-do list and the pressure we put on ourselves, we give ourselves more time to be present and intentional with what we’re doing.
It can also give us more opportunities to take breaks. Give yourself permission to enjoy a cup of herbal tea without your phone or step outside for a few minutes before starting your day.
Amma Therapie’s cozy ritual: Create a little comfort corner with a blanket, a warm drink, your favorite therapeutic compress and a few quiet minutes to soothe an ache or simply relax.
2. Embrace the benefits of heat therapy
The arrival of colder weather can make us tense and leave us feeling chilled. The result? More muscle tension, trouble falling asleep with cold feet, a shorter temper… So why not treat yourself to a little warmth?
Heat therapy is a wonderful way to relax tense muscles while creating a soothing and comforting ritual. You can take a warm bath or, if you’re short on time, use a warm therapeutic compress.
Amma Therapy offers several types of therapeutic compresses to suit different areas of the body. You can even complete your ritual with a washable cover if you like using your compress to warm up your feet.
Heat then becomes much more than a source of comfort: it becomes part of your wellness ritual and a simple way to help you feel better.
3. Create a bedtime routine
As the sun sets earlier, artificial light and screens can trick our brains and interfere with melatonin production. That’s why having a bedtime routine can help ease the transition into sleep, perhaps a little earlier than during the summer.
To support quality sleep, it’s helpful to maintain some consistency in your routine: going to bed and waking up at relatively consistent times. It’s also a good idea to limit screen time and create a calm environment that allows your body to gradually prepare for rest.
Why not turn the last few minutes of your day into a true ritual?
Soft lighting, a few deep breaths, gentle music, a cup of herbal tea and a sleep mask can all help create this peaceful transition.
Our lavender therapeutic mask fits perfectly into this moment of calm. Placed over the eyes, it helps keep the eyelids closed, encourages the face to relax and creates a soothing sense of calm.
4. Ease back into yoga
Fall is the perfect time to get back into yoga at home if your routine took a little break over the summer.
You don’t need to set aside a full hour for every practice. Listen to what your body needs. Fifteen or twenty minutes can be enough to rediscover the pleasure of moving.
A few gentle poses in the morning can help wake up your body. A short yoga flow in the middle of the day can give you a little energy boost. And a brief restorative yoga session in the evening can become a lovely way to unwind and prepare for a restful night.
Our tip: Create an inviting space dedicated to your practice. It will make it easier to stay consistent and come back to your mat every day or several times a week.
A yoga bolster can support a variety of poses and provide comfortable support during restorative practices, stretching or moments of relaxation.
Complete your space with a mat, a few accessories such as a block and strap, and an essential oil diffuser or mist.
This little ritual can bring so many benefits!
5. Move a little every day
As the days get shorter, it can be tempting to spend more time indoors. Yet maintaining regular physical activity is a wonderful way to support your energy and overall balance.
A walk surrounded by fall colors, a few stretches, a bike ride or any other activity you enjoy—the important thing is to find a way to move that feels good to you.
And not every activity needs to be intense. What matters is moving without pressure or the need to perform.
After physical activity, give yourself a moment to recover and take the time to notice how good it feels. Physical activity can promote the release of hormones and neurotransmitters associated with well-being.
Moving your body can help support your overall health and, most importantly, help you feel more energized.
6. Reconnect With Yourself
Back-to-school season and the change of seasons can create a whirlwind of things to do. It’s easy to forget to make time for yourself.
But don’t be afraid to make space for yourself during the day. It won’t stop you from getting things done, in fact, you may find that you’re even more productive afterward.
Find what feels best for you. Meditation is a great place to start, and it doesn’t have to be complicated!
Sit comfortably, close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath. When thoughts come up, simply notice them and gently return your attention to your breathing.
You can also use this time for a little self-reflection.
Ask yourself one simple question:
“How am I feeling today?”
A meditation cushion can make this pause more comfortable and help you create a space that makes you want to return to your practice, day after day.
Over time, these few minutes can become a true anchor in your day.
7. Rearrange your home to support your new habits
Of course, a little home reorganization comes with the change of seasons. But don’t think only about the practical things: making room for cold-weather clothing, stocking up on firewood, bringing out the slow cooker…
Think about your new fall comfort rituals, too.
You don’t need to transform your entire home. A little corner or two is all you need.
A chair by a window where you can enjoy more natural light, a reading nook near the fireplace, a wellness space where you can practice yoga or meditate…
Create a place where you’ll want to pause and settle in.
Add your favorite Amma Therapie accessories and turn your home into a cozy little refuge for cooler days.
8. Choose more warm drinks
Ayurveda has long encouraged drinking and eating warm foods during the colder months. In addition to bringing comfort and a sense of well-being, warm foods and drinks are often considered easier on digestion and may help support the absorption of nutrients.
You don’t always have to reach for coffee. When you’re looking to create a true wellness ritual, there are so many other comforting options:
- Tea, especially green tea
- Herbal teas
- Warm plant-based milk
- Golden milk
- Infusions, such as ginger, honey and lemon
- Pure hot cocoa (not the kind that comes in a commercial mix)
And what if we turned these warm drinks into true rituals?
A special moment to slow down and settle into your favorite space, with your favorite Amma Therapie cushion.
Fall has never tasted so good!
Welcoming fall with more gentleness
The arrival of the colder season doesn’t have to mean fatigue, stress or constantly being on the go.
Think of fall as an invitation to slow down, return to a routine you may have left behind during the summer, move your body in different ways, sleep better and create more little moments of presence throughout your day.
At Amma Therapie, we believe wellness is built through these simple everyday gestures: a healthy body, a few minutes of meditation, soothing warmth, a moment of rest and, above all, making time to take care of yourself.
This fall, choose a few habits that make you feel good and make space for them in your daily life and in your home.
Slow down. Breathe. Move. Pause.
And above all, take care of yourself, one little ritual at a time.
